President's Message

Peter NarsavageCentral Ohio  Section Members:

The October joint lunch meeting with Engineers Club was a sell out. We packed the room to hear John Greenhalge, executive director of the Ohio PE & PS board, give a talk about licensing in Ohio. A lot of you came because it provided one hour of ethics training. I thought it was quite interesting to hear about some of the challenges the board has faced in enforcing the rules. My thanks to everyone involved.

I am pleased to announce that our section has been awarded the Outstanding Section and Branch Web Award for medium Sections and Branches. The Leader Training Committee of ASCE will present the award at the 2019 Multi-Region Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas, on February 9. Of course any award like this is the result of the hard work of many people. While I may also be the website editor for the section, most of the credit for this award should go to Brooks Vogel, who took the lead on the new website a few years ago. Many of the board members are now involved with updating and maintaining the website, resulting in a more effective tool for communicating with you, our section members.

Finally, please join us on the south side of Columbus to see and hear an update on the Southern Ohio Veterans Memorial Highway (Portsmouth Bypass). Chad Ratkovich, with Beaver Excavating and the Deputy Project Manager for the Portsmouth Joint Venture, will talk about ODOT's first-ever Public-Private Partnership (P3) project as it nears completion. We will meet at a new venue for us, the Hampton Inn Scioto Downs on the south side, and City Barbeque will be providing the food (yum).
