2026 March Newsletter
President's Message

I hope everyone is finally thawing out after an especially brutal Central Ohio winter. With spring on the horizon, I'm looking forward to longer days, warmer temperatures, and the start of construction season; there's nothing quite like watching our projects come to life.
February was a remarkable month for our Section. The Engineer's Week Luncheon exceeded expectations, and I want to extend a big shout out to Carlos Vasquez, who led the planning effort for this year's event. A heartfelt thank you as well to ASHE, ACEC, APWA, ECC, IEEE, ITE, WTS, ABCD, ASHRAE, OSPE, and our corporate sponsors for their continued support. Our 10th Annual STEM Expo at The Point at Otterbein University was equally impressive, welcoming over 350 attendees for a day of hands-on learning and discovery. Thank you to our Younger Members Group and Planning Committee for their tireless work in making this event possible; we are looking forward to next year already! February also brought us the TH Wu Lecture, which was enlightening and educational, as well as Keg Curling at Land Grant Brewing, which proved to be competitive and engaging.
ASCE, in conjunction with the Engineers Club of Columbus and ASHE, hosted a March Madness Event on Friday, March 20 at Pastimes Pub & Grill in Grandview. On March 25, our Younger Members group hosted a financial education event for recent graduates at Bobcat's in Grandview from 4:30 to 7:00 PM. We are excited to provide opportunities like this for our younger members; equipping early-career engineers with practical financial knowledge is a meaningful investment in their futures.
Voting on our proposed constitution and bylaws revisions has closed, and I want to thank everyone who participated. A special thank you to Past President Nick Mill for his leadership in developing the revisions and guiding the voting process. We look forward to sharing the results soon.
The continued success of this organization is only possible because of people like you. Your engagement, your volunteerism, and your commitment to our profession make all the difference. As we gear up for the upcoming season, I wish everyone the best of luck with the busyness that lies ahead.
2026 Engineers Week Luncheon

2026 Engineers' week was a huge success. Engineering Deans from across Ohio’s universities gathered to share insight into their programs and how they are preparing the next generation of engineers and responding to the evolving industry needs and technologies. The event offered a look at the future of engineering programs, emerging academic priorities, opportunities for collaboration, and how universities are equipping graduates to succeed.
STEM Expo

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) hosted its 10th Annual Central Ohio STEM Expo on February 28th for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade that will feature fun, interactive activities and exhibits in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math fields. This year's event which took place at The Point at Otterbein University welcomed students, local professional organizations, universities, and university student groups, consulting firms, non-profits, and STEM related companies. Student participants built race cars out of food items, battled robots, modeled buildings, saw concrete float, saw a real human brain, and interacted in many more enriching and intriguing activities.
