President's Message

Central Ohio  Section:

It looks like spring has finally sprung here in Central Ohio! It is exciting to see the plants reemerge and with it the people reemerge from their winter and COVID "hibernations." The Central Ohio ASCE Section is also starting to look ahead to our reemergence. While we are still planning for virtual luncheons through May, we are planning our annual golf outing which will be a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and see people you may have not seen in over a year! Additionally, as we move toward the fall, we are hopeful that we can consider more in-person events.

The Central Ohio ASCE YouTube channel is up and running and the only place to view previous luncheons. You can connect to our YouTube channel on the Central Ohio Section website by clicking the  icon on the homepage. We encourage you to subscribe for access to recordings of past virtual luncheons. If we can get to 100 subscribers, it may offer more opportunities to serve our members through the YouTube platform.

As we approach the end of our Board year, we are looking for energetic civil engineers to join the Board and help lead the Section. If you are interested, please contact me directly through the emails listed below.

Additionally, we are seeking nominations for Outstanding Civil Engineer of Central Ohio and Outstanding Section Member of ASCE Central Ohio. The qualifications for each of the awards can be found on our website "Awards" tab under the "About" tab. If you would like to nominate a worthy engineer, please contact me.

Thank you and get outside and enjoy some of this great spring weather!

Meeting Recaps

The spring meeting of the Ohio Council of Local ASCE Sections will be on Friday, April 9, 2021, from 10 am to 2 pm. The meeting will be online using Microsoft Teams. All ASCE members are welcome to attend.  For meeting information, please send a request to . The Ohio Council was organized in 1969 to focus statewide attention on issues of interest and concern to civil engineers. There are six local sections in Ohio each having representation on the Ohio Council in proportion to its membership. The Council meets twice annually, in spring and fall, to foster communication among the six sections. At the semi-annual meetings, each section gives a report on the section’s activities during the six months since the previous meeting, and there is an opportunity for questions and discussion of new activities by the sections. The Council also reviews policies and actions under consideration by the ASCE National board, and may vote to make a recommendation to the Board.
