UAS (Drone) Applications in Civil Engineering

The presentation will cover the application of UAS technology to provide geospatial and monitoring support on engineering or planning related projects.  It will cover information on the current FAA regulations and guidelines, UAS airframes and sensor packages, data deliverables, examples of projects and products delivered and systems comparisons and accuracies.


Thomas E. Mackie, PS - Woolpert

As an Aviation Practice Leader, Thomas Mackie is responsible for leading the direction of Woolpert’s Aviation Geospatial Practice and supporting his team and clients by implementing industry best-practices, assisting his team in project planning and workflow development, and collaboration between clients and Woolpert’s multidisciplinary experts.  His more than 20 years of geospatial experience includes geodetic, hydrographic and topographic surveying, geophysical exploration, photogrammetric mapping and cartography, aeronautical surveys, GIS, SUE, and LiDAR, multispectral, thermal, and infrared remote sensing.  He has a civil engineering degree from The Ohio State University with additional degrees in geodetic science and remote sensing, and is a licensed land surveyor in the State of Ohio.

CPD Hours

A certificate for one (1) Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hour will be issued at the conclusion of the program.
